Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a fee to attend events?
Yes: Our events are pay as you go and the price is advertised on each event page, which is payable in advance to secure your place.
How do I sign up?
Have a browse at our events calendar, either on Meetup (https://www.meetup.com/outwood-social-shropshire/) or on our website and add your details and booking information. Payments are made via PayPal (message if you’d prefer to use BACs transfer) and then you will receive a booking confirmation and will automatically be added to the attendee list.
What happens if I don’t use PayPal?
There is the option to pay via BACs transfer (online banking), so please message Leanne via the Direct Message service on Meetup and she will send you the bank details.
What if I am unable to book on an event via Meetup?
There are sometimes bugs with the Meetup system, so if you’re unable to book your place, please message Leanne via the Direct Message service on Meetup and she will add you on manually.
What happens if I can’t attend my event?
Due to the nature of the events calendar and our large group bookings, we run a no returns policy. However, we encourage you to sell your ticket to another member of the group or pass it on to a friend. Our full Refund Statement can be found in the ‘Disclaimer’ section on the website and in the ‘About Us’ section of our Meet Up page.
What happens if I’m running late to my event?
We run a 10 mins buffer for any latecomers, as we understand traffic can sometimes be a problem. Please inform us if you’re running late, either by direct message on Meetup or by texting the event host, whose number you’ll find in the event description. The event will go ahead without you if you’re later than 10 mins after the advertised start time.
What is the age range of your members?
Most of our attendees are in their 20s, 30s, and 40s but anyone over 18 is welcome, no matter your experience or fitness level.
Can I car share?
Yes, we love car sharing! We always have cars going from Shrewsbury. Pop a message on the event discussion board to see if anyone is living in your area and wants to pair up.
I’m nervous about going to an event, what would be the best one for me to start with?
We are always there to welcome you at every event and try to buddy new people up. We often run new members’ events so keep an eye out for one of those. At Outwood Social, no one is left behind.
I’m a beginner at outdoor activities, can I join?
Of course! That is what it’s all about, trying new things and having a go. There are so many different activities to try, you are sure to find one you love and our events are suitable for all abilities.
Can I bring my children?
No, we run an over 18s policy. This is a group for you to be YOU, not Mum or Dad.
What equipment do I need?
Most of the time you just need to bring yourself, however, each event listing will always explain everything you need to bring along.
Do I need to wear anything specific for the different events?

I have a physical/mental/medical issue/impairment. Am I still able to join in?
Of course! We are a fully inclusive group, and we want members to be able to attend as many events as they are able to. Where events have access / participation restrictions that may make the event unsuitable for some of our members, this will always be stated and explained in the event listing.
I have a really great idea for an event/activity, am I able to suggest it – or even lead it?
Definitely! We are always looking for new and exciting events and if you are happy to host and lead the event you suggest, that’s great! Please message Leanne via the Direct Message service on Meetup and she will come back to you.
Can I bring a friend with me as my guest?
Yes – we allow up to 3 guests for each event that you attend, unless otherwise specified. Guests will be required to pay any fees or costs.
Am I able to photograph / videos of the events that I take part in?
The taking of photographs or videos for personal use is allowed, providing any other attendees in them have given their full consent. We encourage you to tag @OutwoodSocial in any of your content on social media.
I have a dog, am I able to bring him/her along with me to the events?
We love dogs on our walks and welcome them as much as possible, however we do have to respect the rules and regulations of the locations and countryside we visit. Each event listing will always explain whether dogs are able to attend or not.
